Answers Only Through Email Instructions

For Dr. Hewett’s Tests

General Rule:

Type your answers into an email message and send them to me in a readable form before the test due deadline.

In other words:

1.         Heading of Email: Type the appropriate test number as the email heading. For example: Test 1.

2.         Email Body: You may type the answers directly into the body of your email if you wish. However, you may prefer to type your answers into a Microsoft Word document and then copy and paste that document into the body of your email message. In either case, make sure that you keep a copy of your answer sheet either in the Sent folder of your email software or in a Word document in an appropriate file on your computer. This is necessary in case we have trouble communicating. If I cannot read your email message, you will have to re-format the message until I can read it. If you do not keep a copy, you will have to re-take the test and lose credit for turning it in late.

3.         Attachment: You may send your answer sheet as a Word Document attachment. Instead of copying and pasting your answers from Word to the body of your email, you can simply attach it to your message.

4.         Equations in Text Form: If you need to express any of your answers in mathematical form and only have a text editor, you may use FORTRAN type of notation. Some examples of this are given below:

Mathematical Expression

FORTRAN Notation

gamma = 1/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)

or

y = (1-v^2/c^2)^-1/2

|A> dot |B> = A B cos(theta) = A(x) B(x) + A(y) B(y) + A(z) B(z)

or

(A) . (B) = A B cos(q) = Ax Bx + Ay By + Az Bz

5.         Equation Editor: If you have an equation editor, you may be able to use it to type your formulas directly into the body of your email or into a Word document attachment. However, I must be able to read your equations or you will have to re-format them and send them to me again. On my computer, to activate the equation editor, I simply click Insert, Object , Microsoft Equation 3.0 and type in my equation.

6.         Caution: Make sure I can read your emailed answer sheet before the test due deadline. If you send me your answer sheet at the last minute and I cannot read it, you will not receive full credit for your work because you will have to re-format your answers and send them in late.
