The department hosts an observatory on top of Hill Hall that contains a 16-inch reflecting telescope. The telescope can be used in either Newtonian or Schmidt-Cassegrain mode. It includes a CCD camera, computerized directional control, a photometer, and a spectrometer. Originally designed
and built by physics students, the telescope has been an important resource for the program for more than a quarter-century. Public viewing sessions are planned approximately monthly, depending on weather, and the telescope can be used by majors who have been trained in its operations.

The department offers Public Viewing Events approximately monthly throughout the regular academic year. Check in the Upcoming Events section for the dates for this semester.
